Image The Algerian Revolution in Arabic and World Literature

Laboratory Director: Amine Masreni

Description

The ‘Image of the Algerian Revolution in Arabic and World Literature’ laboratory is one of the laboratories concerned with Arabic and international literature related to the Algerian liberation revolution, considering it a human model of attachment to the land and identity. Since its establishment in 2012, the laboratory has been concerned with organising cultural and scientific events that are in line with its general orientation, opening up to everything related to Arabic and Algerian literature. The laboratory consists of four teams:
The first group: ‘The image of the Algerian revolution in poetry’: This group seeks to trace the various images of the Algerian revolution and their reflections in Algerian and Arab revolutionary poetry, through the works of its great poets who sympathised with the Algerian revolution and the Algerian people's right to self-determination in form and substance. They expressed this in their texts and collections of poetry, taking a positive stance towards the blessed Algerian revolution. The group also traces the same manifestations in Arabic and international poetry.
The second group: ‘The image of the Algerian revolution in stories and novels’: This research group is concerned with collecting and verifying scientific material related to the image of the Algerian revolution in novels and stories at the national, Arab and international levels, in order to highlight the writers who produced novels and short stories that celebrated the greatness of the Algerian revolution and the legitimacy of its demands, starting with national productions, which represent a huge number of novels and short stories that sought to highlight the image of the Algerian revolution in a distinctive literary and artistic form. Some of these Algerian novels and short stories gained international fame and were translated into languages such as English, French, German and others.
The third group: ‘The image of the Algerian revolution in theatre’: The research group seeks to collect and verify scientific material related to the image of the Algerian revolution in theatre at the national, Arab and international levels, highlighting the writers who produced plays celebrating the greatness of the Algerian revolution and the legitimacy of its demands, starting with national productions, which included a huge number of plays that sought to highlight the image of the Algerian revolution in a distinctive literary and artistic form, with some of these Algerian theatrical works achieving international fame.
The fourth group: ‘The image of the Algerian revolution in cinema’: The fourth research group aims to monitor revolutionary documentary films in Algeria and investigate films that recorded the events of the war of liberation in all its details, in the mountains and cities. Among the objectives of the research is to explore the structure and chronology of documentary films, which establish a system for narrating events, and then to study the relationships between the sequence of events that took place and their appearance in the narrative that we see during the screening, so that we can interpret time from a cinematic perspective. The research team focuses on studying a group of documentary works that were shown during the glorious liberation revolution, which focused on media topics in order to publicise the national cause. The research team also examines post-revolution recordings, monitoring a group of documentary films produced by revolutionary filmmakers. The research team will also address the issue of directing in documentary cinema for revolutionary films in Algeria, applying this to a collection of films produced by both French and Algerian filmmakers. The team will also track Arab films that dealt with the Algerian revolution, such as the film Al-Asfour (The Sparrow) by director Youssef Chahine, the series Eissat Ider by Jordanian director Kamal Laham, and other revolutionary films that sought to highlight the greatness and immortality of the Algerian revolution, both in the Arab world and internationally.
