Description

The Applied Organic Synthesis Laboratory (LSOA) is a center of research excellence, accredited since 2021.
The Applied Organic Synthesis Laboratory (LSOA), located at the University of Oran 1 Ahmed Ben Bella, conducts multidisciplinary research at the interface of organic chemistry, materials science, and life sciences. Its activities focus on innovative themes with strong scientific and socio-economic impact. Structured into five complementary teams, LSOA covers a broad spectrum of topics ranging from molecular synthesis to the design of advanced materials and the valorization of natural resources.
Team 1 focuses on the synthesis, functionalization, and biological evaluation of heterocyclic molecules. It develops new synthetic strategies, particularly through cycloaddition reactions and the use of bimetallic bases, with a dual objective: improving chemical efficiency and reducing environmental impact. The obtained compounds are subjected to pharmacological studies, especially for their anticancer activities.
Team 2 is dedicated to molecular recognition and environmental applications, through the synthesis of receptors capable of trapping polluting metal cations. It also develops approaches for water and soil remediation using eco-friendly and low-cost materials, as well as molecules with biological potential such as isatin–rhodanine hybrids.
Team 3 conducts research on the valorization of natural clays, particularly bentonite, for the design of innovative catalytic materials. By integrating green technologies (microwaves, ultrasound, green solvents), it develops environmentally friendly synthesis processes and applications for water decontamination.
Team 4, dedicated to natural substances and bioactive molecules, explores plant biomass to extract, characterize, and modify compounds of interest. Its work aims to identify new molecules with biological activities (antioxidant, antigenotoxic, therapeutic) and to understand their mechanisms of action, particularly through molecular modeling approaches.
Finally, Team 5 specializes in nanostructured organic materials and molecular assemblies, developing nanoparticles, polymers, nanocomposites, and functional systems. Its research covers various applications in biomedicine (drug delivery), environment (decontamination), and energy (materials for solar cells).
Through the complementarity of its teams, LSOA positions itself as a key player in applied chemistry, combining molecular innovation, advanced materials development, and the valorization of natural resources, with a strong focus on sustainable solutions and high societal impact.
